My friend told me about a site called Elana's Pantry which features lots of gluten-free treats, recipes and info on it.  I didn't really look into it at the time since I wasn't fully gluten-free, but with my new diet changes for the next few months, I've been paying attention lately.  There was a really interesting post yesterday about how she found out she had Celiac disease, and how she gets around it in her cooking and everyday life.  This led me to an irresistible picture of a brownie...

...which led me to make them, which led me to make her Double Almond Chocolate Chip cookies the next day.

Gluten-free doesn't look so bad, does it?  I used grain-sweetened chocolate chips and half honey, half agave for the sweetener.

Yes, sometimes I get on a roll.  Anyways, you should definitely check out her site.  The 2 desserts I made were delish and the info very handy.

We went to BOA in Hollywood Saturday night and to my surprise it was amazing.  It was the biggest scene.  The skirts were high and the boobs...were out.  As usual I had a to ask a million questions before I started ordering, but the waiter was extremely helpful and accommodating and I had maybe the best piece of steak ever.  In my life.  It was called Wagyushu and it was some combination hybrid steak.  Whatever.  It was YUMMY.  Also streaked with fat which is probably why it was so tasty.  But for all you non-dairy, gluten free fans, they do not cook the steak in butter and they prepared all the beggies in oil.  Everything was just as good if not better than if it were butter-laden.

I was so full I wasn't even sad for the free dessert and glasses of champagne they brought over at the end.  Swear.  (sniff).

After we went to super-exclusive Soho Hpouse West Hollywood.  It was mellow and gorgeous.  I lasted till 12am if I don't say.  It was nice to get out of the bubble with my man.

Another typical but delish lunch for me; tuna with nayonaise, fresh avocado, arugula and capers on a gluten-free tortilla with sliced tomatoes and mini cukes from the farmers market sprinkled with Fleur de Sel.  Perfect summer lunch.

I found out about this new line of faux cheese products by Wayfare just the other day on Alicia Silverstone's blog. I ran straight out to buy the cheddar cheese spread and I have to say, I'm pleased.  This will be a nice alternative to cheese and cracker hour in our home.

Aaaand, look at the ingredients!  Its all goodness but has the old school memories of the wisepride spread I used to load on my bremner wafer with mom and dad back in high school - minus the processed crapola.

Supah Simple Coconut Curry

My man is out of town on a surf trip.  I miss him, there's a void in the bed and our corgi is all mopey, but here are the pluses: 1. I've watched 3 chick flicks 2. caught up on The Hills, The City & The Real Housewives of New York aaaaaaaand 3. I get to try out recipes for one!  Food that he wouldn't like, like salmon, curry dishes and breakfast for dinner.
So, although I adore him and my heart is empty and all that, this curry was damn good.  

And wait until you see how easy it is, you'll just die.


1 can light coconut milk
1 cube of crushed garlic from Trader Joe's frozen section or 1 clove, minced
5 chopped scallions (separate white part from green part in 2 separate piles)
1 jalapeno, seeded and chopped
 12-16 raw shrimp 
4-5 small fingerling potatoes, steamed with...
A large handful of green beans until tender
2 cups cooked brown basmati rice
1 t curry powder
1 T shredded, unsweetened coconut
1 lime

Sauted the garlic and white scallion parts in about 1 T of oil, (coconut, canola or safflour will do) on medium-low-ish.  Just a few minutes, you don't want them to brown.  Add jalapeno and curry and saute a few more minutes.  Chop the steamed potatoes and green beans into bite sized pieces while this is happening.  Add shrimp and coconut milk and raise heat to medium high until it boils.  Add potatoes and beans and turn down to a simmer.  Simmer for 10 minutes.  Stir in the lime juice and coconut.
Top with green scallion parts and maybe even a handful of cilantro if you're feeling particularly special.  And you should.  This meal is special.  Go light a candle and whisper sweet nothings to yourself.

Vegan Peanut Butter Pie for One

I know.  This is a pathetic little example of a smashing baking endeavor.  But I told you, I'm a bad Blog-Picture-Taker.  I get so amped up on eating the food, I forget to take the pic.  So here's the recipe for you for a darling little vegan peabut butter pie for one.  Did I mention its gluten free?

1/4 of a 14oz package of silken tofu
3 T raw honey (Trader Joe's, baby!)
1 T water

Blend together in a mini prep Cuisinart or blender until smooth.


3 T GF brown crisped rice
pinch of sea salt or pink himalayan salt
pinch baking soda
1t safflour oil
1/2 t agave nectar 

Crush brown rice cereal in a bag and combine with other ingredients.  Mash in botton of a small ramekin.  Pour peanut butter pie mixture on top and bake for 25 minutes at 350.

I think its better chilled but that's just me.  This is hard to resist...

I just love Bethenny's healthy recipes and the business she's created for herself.  Its what I aspire to achieve!

I totally hearted Alicia this Januray when I went vegan for a month.  Her book, The Kind Diet, is a must read.

I watch Ina religiously.

My newest fave.  Her writing reminds me of Nigella.
