Letter from my sister

Hilarious. And true.

Food Journal

I am trying to emulate Cristin of Eat Like Me who keeps a pictorial documentation of what she eats.  I usually only take a picture if I'm eating something considerably noteworthy, most likely a decadent meal out.  I though I would keep it simple just once (or maybe more, I might get addicted) and post what I eat normally.

This morning, I had one of my typical fave weekday morning breakfasts; a gluten-free waffle with almond butter and St Dalfour Strawberry jam & Trader Joe's Organic Greek yoghurt with flax, raisins and a handful of brown crisped rice.  Gets me through!

My Favorite Vegan Cooking Classes

Sunday, February 21, 2010
I have blogged about these girls and their classes before.  I'm obsessed. Jenny & Heather Goldberg, the sisters behind Spork Foods are funny, knowledgeable..and they even dress cute.  Today's menu was - Veggie Burger Sliders with Cashew Cheese, Baby Greens With Sautéed Celery Root in an Agave Hazelnut Mustard Dressing, Rosemary and Lemon Roasted Root Vegetable Fries & Cinnamon Maple Dessert Crepes with fresh berriesIt was so much fun.  I can hardly wait to return.

BP Oysterette

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

We went to Blue Plate Oysterette this weekend after reading about it for almost 6 months.  It was by far one of my favorite dining experiences in LA since Bottega Louie. (I would post pics but we devoured everything that was placed in front of us).  You might see some inconsistency with my stories and my pictures.  My intent is to take pictures of beautiful food and tell you how insanely delicious it was, however, I am human and get distracted and have to eat immediatelyYou may just end up with the random paper tray with a few lingering french fries.  If you see that, just know you need to eat there.

We started with 6 different varieties of oysters.  My faves with the Garrish Bay, but they were all off the charts; ice cold, fresh and delish.  We were saddened by the news that the fried clams were not available sine weather on the East coast was not permitting.  We settled on a pan of dry roasted mussels with wine and garlic and a lobster roll with a super light mayo on brioche.  When we were done with it, I realized I forgot to get a picture of the beauty.  All you are left with is a few lonely fries and the memory of a fantastic, Boston-style lobster roll.  Man.

Vegan Peanut Butter Cups - Yay

Saturday, February 13, 2010

I made some chocolate peanut butter cups today in honor of Valentines Day.
They are made with tofu but you would never know it!
You whip up some peanut butter and tofu and sugar and chill but stick your finger in it first to make sure its ok.

And you melt some vegan chocolate chips with a little coconut oil.  (I like Sunspire or Enjoy Life mini chips).  Then you put a little in the bottom of some darling candy foil, freeze for a bit, and layer the peanut butter combo & the chocolate and freeze again.

Try to contain yourself.

I Heart Babycakes

I went to Babycakes Bakery today.  I think it was the happiest place on earth.  Look at the girl above.  I think she was singing while she frosted and seriously, can the uniforms get more precious.  Just stop it.  My friend and I could barely make it to the register before scarfing one down.  Once I made it to the register I blurted out "Are you hiring?"  I think I'd clean frosting tubs for them.

Vanilla with vanilla cream filling and strawberry frosting is a must.  Even Silas liked the cookie sandwich.  (He thinks all vegan/gluten-free desserts have a hint of cardboard).

I am eating the other vanilla one with breakfast tomorrow.  Why can't they open one down by the beach?

I love you, Babycakes!
