Prego Cravings
Saturday, May 15, 2010
Ok so if you haven't figured it out from my profile pic already, I am pregnant. Yup. 4 months deep. It doesn't look like I have much of a belly here but it has felt like it since day one, when I couldn't fit into my jeans (!). I have been living in leggings and long stretchy t-shirts. heaven.
Soooo I haven't had CRAVINGS necessarily, but I have been heavily inspired and had a great need to follow through on some food items. For instance, I had teriyaki chicken marinating the other night, and all the ingredients out to make coconut brown rice. Then my cousin called and started telling me at length about how he's started throwing pizza dough and making these incredible pizzas on the grill. Well, after that convo, I wanted nothing to do with teriyaki chicken. I started chanting "Pizza!" up the stairs to my husband.
Another example is Pop tarts. I really missed them and got heavily reminiscent for them one day, but I didn't want all that high-fructose corn syrup and nasty stuff that comes with them. So I bought the SUPER healthy option instead. Nature's Path Organic Toaster Pastries are by no means health food but they satisfy a craving, man.

Summertime BBQ
Thursday, May 13, 2010
Everyone loves a summer BBQ. The weather is finally getting warmer (in SoCal) and the BBQ smells will be in the air soon! We tried Mr Cecil's the other night for a casual weeknight dinner. We liked it. I got a Vegetable kabob with corn on the cob and a this big salad thats just macerated tomatoes, onions and cukes in this delicious vinaigrette. The man got baby back pork ribs, tri-tip and hush puppies! Mmmm...hush puppies...
Some of my beautiful veggies ready for the grill at home. This is my all time favorite go-to BBQ dinner recipe from Giada DeLaurentis. I make it several times per summer. What do you like to make for your BBQ meals????

Lunch at my favorite Vegetarian Restaurant
Tuesday, May 11, 2010
I am in love with this restaurant in Redondo Beach called The Green Temple. They make the best salads, so fresh and spilling over with sprouts, super fresh avocado, tomato, cucumber, and raw shredded beets and carrots. Trust me when I say they are made with love. What you see here are all my faves; salad, the green temple burger & the cornadilla which I had not tried before. Fresh corn with soy cheese on a whole wheat tortilla. Yummy. The burger is pretty much indescribable. It just tastes like home. It has nuts, brown rice, soy cheese, egg, pinto beans...blows away any frozen veg burger and I know that's not hard to do. The owners could not be lovelier and work their tails off. Everyone is always pleasant and happy to serve you. Is it heaven? Yes. Don't forget dessert. Its a little insane. Macadamia nut pies and deliciousness. Its almost too good to be true...

Maple roasted chicken with sweet potatoes and onions. Recipe. Serve with pan-crisped green beans.
Tart Tartin. Sinful.
Bethenny Frankel's lemon cupcakes adapted from her coconut cupcake recipe in Naturally thin. Good and somewhat good for you. How rad is that....
Taco Tuesday
Monday, May 3, 2010
Taco Tuesday at Hudson House in Redondo Beach is phenomenal. If you live in the South Bay you definitely check it out. They have these spicy-savory-sweet watermelon Jalapeno margaritas that are too die for (ok, I had a small sip) not to mention interesting wines by the glass and not-your-run-of-the-mill beer list. It is a neat-o gastropub. Me likey.
If you are not into their $1 street meat tacos (and you'd be a little koo-koo if you weren't) please partake of the small plates, everything is deloish. My personal faves? Beer-battered cauliflower fritters with house tartar sauce, the burrata with slow roasted tomatoes and grilled bread & truffled goat mac n cheese. Damn. I'm hungry.
