Olive oil stand off

In the Left corner, Cali Est Extra Virgin.  In the right, 100% Spanish organic.  Who will win?

Trader Joe's has some amazing products.  One of which is the Cal Estate Olive Oil.  The Spanish is fab too, it just has a more intense "virgin" flavor like a new olive. I had read that the best olive oils are now coming out of California and its hard to even find a good Greek oil unless you have a relative back there who sends it to you by the keg like some of my lucky Greek friends.  I'm far from a connoisseur of the stuff but I know when I taste something yummy and this stuff tot he left knocked my socks off.  Just as good as any fancy European restaurant and full bodies flavor galore.  The winner!

Some of the best olive oil we've ever tasted, from The Butcher shop
A giant Beefeater martini at Del Frisco's Harborside
Boats in the Hahbah
Dax dumped a bucket of water on himself and had to borrow his cousin Annabella's pretty cami
Too much ice cream with your cousins is always a good thing
Heaven outside our door

As you saw from my culinary tour last week we spent some time in Boston and here are just a few snapshots of the memories.  I never fully get over my homesickness.  Its hard when you grew up super close with all of your cousins and you feel like you entire family and heart lives very far away.  Even harder once you have kiddos.  I will continue to create a way to see everyone at least four times a year and I will manifest a home on the East coast, preferably in DT Boston.  And so it is...

Barbara Lynch owns Boston

We really dug the Fancy Sweets
Icy cold glass of rose
I like that they give you a "legend" to your oysters so You know what you're slurping
Bread, blue and honey butter @The Butcher Shop
Charcuterie, olives and tartar

We started out our Boston culinary tour this year with a food crawl to our fave old school spots.  Barbara Lynch apparently OWNS Boston because all her restaurants are amaze and there are many.  Number 9 Park, The Butcher shop and B and G Oyster just to name a few.  We started our journey at B and G and probably ate 1 1/2 - 2 dozen I would say.  The rose wine was just so darn refreshing bc it was almost 90 out.  After leisurely scarfing down those it was on to the Butcher Shop so we could stand around the block and enjoy some red and some of the best tartar I've ever head, surrounded by aging meats.  Thats a date night for me.  I just don't see why you can't find these types of culinary gems in the small towns we live in in LA.  Its not fair, I say.

Gluten free donuts & Tender Greens

Take That, Dunkee's!
Lemon poppy and gluten free!!!
Sorry about the sucky flash but how rad are my tangerine nails?
Ribbons of healthy deliciousness

I've been experimenting with my healthy baked gluten free donut recipes as of late and its been a lot of fun.  (The experimenting AND the eating, obvi).  I saw this donut pan on amazon and I thought; Will I use it? Will it cause increased donut consumption?  Yes and kind of.  Yes I have made several batches of donuts already and I have of course tasted them, but I send them to the gym/work with hubs so its all good.  No visible weight gain yet.  I am not only working to make these goodies gluten free which I basically know how to do from years of research, but the tricky part is replicating the super sugary glaze and sweet cake without sugar.  Raw honey, agave, coconut sugar (in small amounts) and stevia have all been my friends here.  The best recipes I have found so far have been from the Spunky Coconut & The Urban Poser.  The perfection continues...

Checkout this salad I got from my fave salad place, Tender Greens.  Why don't they have one of these in South Bay?  Its just so simple and wonderful.  Super healthy, hearty salads with fresh local ingredients.  Is that so wrong??? This salad was a slew of veggies from the Farmer's right outside the front door, and they were all shaved paper thin with sprouted almonds and lemon herb dressing.  Really?? Perfection.
