Stop, Seder time

I have wanted to host a Seder for several years.  It has not been since the first one I hosted, close to 8 or 9 years ago, that I pulled out my recipes and "What to do when you're dating a Jew" manual that my sister gave me when I got married.  I have to say, I make an extremely mean brisket, being the shiksah that I am, and there's rarely leftovers if I make it for a dinner party.  The food was a success.  I had been preparing it since Wednesday; researching recipes, making the broth for the matzo ball soup from scratch, making the matzo balls, running to the market 4 times in a week, back out for shmaltz to make the chopped chicken liver (which my hubs mastered, by the way).  I have been dairy free for 3 weeks and I was happy to prepare a completely dairy free meal although I did have 2 hunks of cheese out since it was the day after Passover and we don't keep a kosher household.  Next year we'll be more strict to the traditions.

It is a lot of work but if you spread it out its fun and inspiring.  It gives you something to look forward to and your not as stressed.  That's if you like puttering around the kitchen for an hour or 2 a night or all day for that matter.  People ask me why I don't cater or be a chef for god's sake, and they used to ask me why I didn't do that instead of acting which really bummed me out at the time (aren't I a good actor?) but the truth is is just not as darn enjoyable when you have requests, orders, time constraints, limitation, etc.   I love to take my time researching what I want to cook and what I want to experiment with.  Catering is just stressful.  When its a demand then the joy is lost.  This way I can take my time, and if the house isn't perfect but there's great food and music and cool people to talk to then what's better, I ask?

Ok i am totally obsessed with this site/blog/app/wiki whatever it is.  I think about pinteresting all day long.  I can't wait to Dax to go to bed so I can pinterest.  I make up interest boards in my head.  I'm into it.  It is so fun Its like lazy man's scrapbooking but paperless!  Its even green!

I particularly enjoy using Houzz as my main resource to put together online "vision boards" of my potential dream home so I can quickly manifest it into my existance, PRONTO.

Seriously, get more brillz than this.

Feel free to follow my pinterest boards.  I do one for food, kids stuff, pet gear, home, decor, etc and I want to start an inspirational saying board as well.

How fun is that?  No more magazine rippings clogging up your cupboards or office. (Although I do love to rip those mag pages).  Start pinning and have fun.

Birthday Eats, Etc

I know my birthday has come and gone but I also know most people like to stretch the celebration quite a bit; celebrate with different people, maybe celebrate with a party on a weekend and then need a mini celebration with family on the actual date.

I like to make my birthdays pretty food-centric.  Its the one day you can and want to eat anything cuz its your birfday, so I always plan.  Breakfast is always pancakes, my fave, and then what do I want for lunch?  What am I craving most for dinner?  I made Dax eat some almond flour silver dollar 'cakes with me for breakfast with chicken apple sausage.  Lucky for me, my friend made my mind up for me for lunch and brought me 2 gluten free cupcakes from Cupcakes Couture.  I had the red velvet and the chocolate salted caramel.  DIE.  I was glad I didn't have to fall back on the Dr. Mercola cocoa cassava bars.  Although good, a cupcake they ain't.If you haven't poked around that site, you should.  Dr Mercola has really interesting and enlightening info on what you don't know can harm you, alternative health and exercise tips.

My man was sweet enough to give me some "Chanel Bucks" towards the Large Flap Bag I will someday own.  It was a pretty good day.
